Lionel Messi is in the starting lineup for tonight’s game as Inter Miami faces the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium.

New England fans may be happy about new Patriots quarterbacks Drake Maye and Joe Milton, but their attention will be focused on another sport tonight.

More than 64,000 fans are expected in attendance on Saturday to see the GOAT – Messi, not Tom Brady – play on the home field of the NFL’s New England Patriots.

The game is expected to set a team attendance record for the Revolution, and potentially be one of the top three most attended soccer matches in Gillette Stadium’s 23-year history.

Inter Miami enters the New England match ranked first in the MLS Eastern Conference and needing to accumulate as many points as possible before Messi departs for Copa America 2024 with Argentina this summer.

Will Messi, Inter Miami set New England Revolution attendance record?

Messi and Inter Miami are expected to help the Revolution set a new club attendance record.

The previous high was 57,407 on April 20, 1997 against the Tampa Bay Mutiny, the same day of a FIFA World Cup qualifying match between Mexico and the United States.

It could also contend for second-most attended soccer match at Gillette Stadium.

Here are the Top 3 most attended soccer games at Gillette Stadium:

Oct. 20, 2022: The 2002 MLS Cup final between New England and L.A. Galaxy drew 61,316 fans. The Galaxy won 1-0 when Carlos Ruiz ended the game with a golden goal in the 113th minute.

June 4, 2011: Spain beat the United States 4-0 during an international friendly in front of 64,121 fans.

Sept. 12, 2007: Brazil beat Mexico 3-1 in an international friendly with 67,584 fans in attendance to set the record.

Two weeks ago, Messi and Inter Miami packed Arrowhead Stadium for a thrilling 3-2 win over Sporting Kansas City in front of 72,610 fans. It was the most-attended soccer match in Missouri and the third-most attended MLS game in history.
