Here is what to know about the vehicle recalls published by NHTSA from June 23 to June 29.
Volkswagen recalls:More than 270k SUVs over airbag that may not deploy during a crash
Jaguar is recalling 1,995 of its vehicles. In the NHTSA report, the luxury vehicle company said that the oil filter housing can crack and leak oil into the engine compartment. If an oil leak is located near a hot engine or exhaust components, it can increase the risk of a fire.
To fix the issue, mechanics will replace the filter housing, oil filter and o-rings for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be delivered by Aug. 9. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N908.
Recalled 2024 Jaguar vehicles:
General Motors (GM) is recalling 6,746 of its 2023-2025 Cadillac XT5 and 2024-2025 Cadillac XT6 vehicles. In the NHTSA report, the automotive manufacturer said the instrument panel may not light up when the driver turns on the hazard warning lights, high beams or turn signals. With this malfunction, the driver could fail to alert other motorists that their signal is no longer needed. If these lights stay on while a driver is driving it can confuse other drivers and increase the risk of a crash.
The NHTSA said these vehicles do not follow the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 101, "Controls and Displays" and 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Assoc. Equipment."
As a resolution GM dealers will update the software on the instrument panel for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be delivered by Aug. 5. Owners may contact Cadillac's customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N242447940.
Recalled vehicles:
Nissan is recalling 7,222 of its two-wheel drive vehicles. In the NHTSA report, the automobile manufacturer said the driveshaft can get tired and break. A broken driveshaft can cause a driver to lose drive power, or the vehicle may roll away when the gear is shifted to park without applying the parking brake. Nissan warns that both scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.
To fix the issue Nissan dealers will replace the driveshaft. All services will be completed for free. Recalled notification letters are expected to be delivered by Aug. 12. Owners may contact Infiniti's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. INFINITI's numbers for this recall are R24A5 and R24A7.
Recalled Infiniti vehicles:
Chrysler is recalling 11,650 of its 2014-2019 Fiat 500 vehicles. In the NHTSA report, the automobile manufacturer said the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) warning light may not display as intended. When a TPMS warning light does not illuminate it can result in the vehicle being driven with improperly inflated tires. This defect can increase the risk of a crash.
The NHTSA report also said that these vehicles do not follow the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems."
To fix the issue the dealer will reprogram the TPMS electronic control unit module. This service will be completed for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be delivered by Aug. 14. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 80B.
Recalled vehicles:
Tesla is recalling 11,383 of its 2024 Cybertruck vehicles. In the NHTSA report, the automotive company said the trunk bed trim sail applique could have been improperly adhered and can loosen. If the vehicle has a loose applique, it can detach from the vehicle. If this happens it can create a road hazard for other drivers and increase the risk of a crash.
To resolve this issue Tesla service will apply an adhesion promoter and pressure sensitive tape or replace missing applique, as necessary. This service is free. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed out on Aug. 18. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-24-12-006.
Recalled vehicles:
Tesla is recalling 11,688 of its 2024 Cybertruck vehicles. The automotive company said the excessive electrical current can cause the front windshield wiper motor controller to fail. A windshield wiper that fails can reduce a driver’s visibility and increase the risk of a crash, the NHTSA report said.
For free, Tesla service will replace the wiper motor. Recall notification letters are expected to be mailed out on Aug. 18.
Recalled vehicles:
Porsche is recalling 31,689 of its 2020-2025 Taycan vehicles. The automobile manufacturer said the front brake hoses can develop cracks and leak brake fluid. When brake fluid leaks it can reduce the vehicle’s braking performance and extend the distance needed to stop. It can increase the risk of a crash, the NHTSA report said.
Dealers will replace the front brake hoses for free. Notification letters are expected to be mailed July 3. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche's number for this recall is ARB0.
Recalled Porsche vehicles:
Toyota is recalling 145,254 of its vehicles. The automotive manufacturer said the driver's side curtain airbag may not unroll as intended. The airbag could partially deploy outside of an open window. If the side curtain airbag does not deploy properly it can reduce the passenger’s protection during a crash. As a result, this will increase the risk of injury, the NHTSA report said.
The government agency said these vehicles do not follow the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 226, "Ejection Mitigation."
Right now, Toyota is currently working on a remedy to fix the issue. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risks are expected to be mailed out between Aug. 5 and Aug. 19. A second notice will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 24TB09/24TA09 and Lexus' numbers are 24LB05/24LA05.
Recalled 2024 vehicles:
Toyota is recalling approximately 11,000 late model Lexus crossover SUVs for a head restraint issue.
In certain Lexus SUVs, the driver and front passenger seat head restraints may be removed without pressing the release button, Toyota said in a voluntary recall notice Wednesday. This defect – possibly resulting in the vehicle not meeting federal safety standards – may increase the risk of injury to an occupant in the event of a rear-end crash if a head restraint is removed and not replaced, the automaker said.
Customers will be notified about the issue by late August 2024 and Lexus dealers will replace the head restraints at no cost to customers, Toyota said.
To see if your vehicle is involved in this or any other safety recall, vehicle owners can go to Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate information. If you have additional questions, contact Lexus customer support is available at 1-800-255-3987.
Recalled vehicles:
Volkswagen is recalling 9,653 of its 2022-2024 Audi RS E-Tron GT and Audi E-Tron GT vehicles. In the NHTSA report, the automobile manufacturer said the front axle brake hoses can develop tears and cause a leak and a brake circuit failure. A failed brake circuit can cause longer brake pedal travel and reduced braking performance, extending the distance required to stop. This can increase the risk of a crash.
To prevent potential crashes, Volkswagen dealers will replace the front axle brake hoses. All services will be completed for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be delivered by Aug. 16. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 47UP.
Recalled vehicles:
Volkswagen is recalling 271,330 of its 2021-2024 Atlas and 2020-2024 Atlas Cross Sport vehicles. The automobile manufacturer said the passenger occupant detection system (PODS) may experience a fault in the wiring and deactivate the front passenger airbag when the seat is occupied. When a passenger’s airbag is deactivated it can increase the risk of injury during a crash, the NHTSA report said.
In order to prevent passenger injuries Volkswagen dealers will replace the PODS sensor mat and wiring harness for free. Notification letters are expected to be delivered by Aug. 16. Owners may contact Volkswagen's customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69PZ.
Recalled Volkswagen vehicles:
Ford is recalling 552,188 of its 2014 F-150 vehicles. In the NHTSA report, the automobile manufacturer said a loss of signal between the transmission output shaft speed sensor and the powertrain control module can cause the transmission to unexpectedly downshift into first gear. This shift will happen regardless of vehicle speed. If a vehicle unexpectedly downshifts into first gear the driver may lose control of the vehicle and this will increase the risk of a crash, the NHTSA report said.
To resolve the issue, Ford dealers will update the powertrain control module software on the affected vehicles. All services will be completed for free. Notification letters are expected to be sent on July 1. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S37.
