Daniel Jones injury updates: Giants QB out for season with torn ACL

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in Sunday’s contest against the Las Vegas Raiders, Giants coach Brian Daboll confirmed Monday.

Jones will miss the remainder of the season, marking the second time in three years that an injury has ended his campaign prematurely. In 2021, he was sidelined for the final six games by a neck injury.

"He's worked really hard to get back, and it's unfortunate," Daboll said Sunday night of Jones before the injury was confirmed.

The injury occurred during the second quarter. With the Giants trailing the Raiders 7-0, Jones dropped back for a pass but his right knee appeared to buckle under him and he went down awkwardly. Jones immediately grabbed his right knee after falling down. Jones was officially ruled out for the rest of the game in the third quarter.

Jones was able to walk off the field to the medical tent for an evaluation and he was replaced by rookie Tommy DeVito, who finished the game with 175 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

"He felt like he buckled," Daboll said. "Then he was running it off. We went over to him, we talked to him, he said, 'I'm good.' Then he went back in and obviously wasn't."

Sunday marked Jones’ first game back since missing the previous three weeks due to a neck injury. Tyrod Taylor started in Jones’ during that stretch, but Taylor was placed on injured reserve Saturday after he was hospitalized last week with a rib injury during the Giants' 13-10 overtime loss to the New York Jets.

Jones completed four of nine passes for 25 yards before leaving the game. He finished with 909 passing yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions in six games this season.

Giants' depth chart at quarterback

Amid a rash of injuries in a 2-7 campaign, the Giants' depth faces yet another steep challenge.

Taylor will miss at least three more games while on injured reserve, leaving DeVito as the only other quarterback on the active roster at the moment.

Veteran Matt Barkley was signed to the practice squad last week, however, and could be promoted to the active roster. New York could also look to the free-agent market for additional help.

Daniel Jones' contract

Jones signed a four-year, $160 million extension this offseason just prior to the franchise-tag deadline.

Jones' deal includes $82 million fully guaranteed, all of which is to be paid in the first two years of the agreement.
