2024 second base rankings: Iron man Marcus Semien leads AL, depth rules NL

Power or speed? At second base, you may not have to choose one or the other. Several of the top second basemen in the game offer both qualities − though they may come in different proportions.

Marcus Semien's five-category goodness rules the American League. The Rangers stalwart led the AL with 122 runs scored, while hitting 29 home runs and stealing 14 bases last season. But other than Jose Altuve and Gleyber Torres, the rest of the position is filled with inconsistent or unproven players. Keep an eye on Oakland's Zack Gelof, who had 14 homers and 14 steals in just 69 games as a rookie.

In the National League, Mookie Betts is making the full-time move to second (though he's still fantasy-eligible in the outfield as well). He's coming off a career-high 39 homers a year ago, while the Braves' Ozzie Albies slugged 33 and led the position with 109 RBI. If you really need speed, Nico Hoerner (43 steals), Ha-Seong Kim (38) and Bryson Stott (31) are available a few rounds later.
